Green beans with bacon and onions makes such an easy side dish. Fresh beans lend a crisp, bright flavor to any meal. They’re best when served hot.

Ingredients:

  •     1 teaspoon salt
  •     1 lb green beans, rinsed and trimmed
  •     2 -3 sprigs savory, rinsed and patted dry
  •     8 slices lean bacon
  •     3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine

Directions:

  1. Fill a medium saucepan with water and add salt.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add the beans and savory and return to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Drain beans and remove savory sprigs.
  6. Divide beans into 8 portions.
  7. Wrap each portion in a slice of bacon, and secure with a toothpick.
  8. Melt butter in a medium skillet; fry the bean bundles on all sides for about 3 minutes.
